‘Raven’ – Children’s BBC TV Show – The Application

In 2017, I took part in a Television show called Raven Returns with the Children’s BBC. Raven is a television show that started in 1999 and was much loved. There was a lot of sadness from those who loved it when it ended. So they wanted to bring it back. Raven was a show to test you mentally and physically through tough challenges. Filmed and set in Scotland.

The process to get on the show, however tough was an enjoyable one.

The Application: It began by an application on the website answering a series of questions about yourself. I chose to apply for the show as the criteria for the show was to be courageous, determined and have no fear and I was sure I was all 3. Throughout the application, I took the technique to be honest about every question and show them who I am and why I was perfect for the show. A few weeks after sending in my application, I received an invite to the audition in June which I was very excited for.

The audition: At arriving to the audition, I immediately saw the large amount of kids there too and realised that this process was not going to be easy. More than 2000 kids had applied and a large amount of these were here – however there were only 16 places. The day consisted of a lot of Team challenges which I enjoyed a lot. However, the main part of the audition was your 1-to-1 audition talk with one of the production team. My audition was with the producer of the show and the assistant producer so I was very nervous, but I tried not to show it. I was asked questions so they could get to know me and some hypothetical questions which meant I had to think fast on my feet. One question they asked was why I chose the warrior name ‘Karpel’ and my answer explained that K seemed like a warriorr style letter and ‘ARPEL’ was an anagram of my name Pearl. They seemed very impressed by this. After the audition, I tried to not say too much about how the audition went as I didn’t know how everyone else did, but I knew I did my best.

Success!: A few weeks later I found I was shortlisted for the show, however I wasn’t excited yet as I was not definitely in the show. However, soon after I found I had gotten on the show and was absolutely elated. Weeks leading up to the start of filming I started to prepare for my adventure to Scotland.
